\ BIOGRAFIE EGON EIERMANN             

Egon Eiermann, geboren am 29. September 1904 in Neuendorf bei Berlin, studierte nach dem Abitur an der Technischen Hochschule in Berlin-Charlottenburg Architektur. Seine wichtigsten Lehrer waren Heinrich Tessenow und vor allem Hans Poelzig, dessen Meisterschüler er war. Nach dem Diplom 1927 arbeitet Eiermann zunächst im Baubüro der Karstadt AG in Hamburg, dann bei der Bewag in Berlin. Von 1931 – 1945 ist er als selbständiger Architekt in Berlin tätig.  Nach dem Krieg wird er schon 1947 an den Lehrstuhl für Architektur der Technischen Hochschule Karlsruhe berufen und hat dort auch sein Architekurbüro bis zu seinem frühen Tod 1970.
             
Als Hochschullehrer und Baumeister ist Egon Eiermann einer der bedeutensten Architekten der Nachkriegszeit in Deutschland geworden. Aus seinem umfangreichen Werk zählen die Wohnhäuser aus den 30er Jahren, die Taschentuchweberei in Blumberg 1951, die Matthäuskirche in Pforzheim 1953, der Deutsche Pavillion auf der Weltausstellung in Brüssel 1958, die neue Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche in Berlin 1961, die Deutsche Botschaft in Washington 1964, das Abgeordneten               Hochhaus in Bonn 1969 und die Verwaltungsgebäude für IBM und Olivetti in Stuttgart und Frankfurt 1970 zu seinen bedeutensten Bauten.
