Responding to the breathless pace of urban growth in China, Luo Yongjin has devised a photographic procedure to depict the rapid construction of high-rise blocks in Shanghai and Beijing. Having identified a major new building site, he determines a camera position and then divides the scene into a grid of multiple frames. He returns regularly during the course of construction, photographing the entire site frame by frame. Eventually, Luo Yongjin juxtaposes images from different stages of construction into a single monumental composition.
