Beach Review: Tanjong Beach

2003_03_singapore_image_3cTanjong Beach is the only beach worth bothering about in Singapore. There's not a whole lot of choice of course, but Tanjong Beach is the best bay by far.  It manages to be just ten minutes cab drive from the centre of the city (which is 5 bucker in this town), but remarkably peaceful even on weekends.  If you do manage to bunk off work and hit the beach on a weekday then you'll have it pretty much to yourself.  Well, that's if you don't count the traffic jam of supertankers floating on the horizon.  They are easily mistaken for the lights of a huge city.  Don't let that put you off though, Tanjong beach has clear water, golden sand, plenty of palm trees to loll under, and little shingled shelters that you can put your guavas under.  Purrfeck.
