PROJECT PSYCHIATRY

Before Jurgen Huiskes finished studying photographic design, he was a social therapist in a psychiatric hospital in The Hague. Part of his work was working with people diagnosed with schizophrenia.

In his search to document the universal occurance of this disease, Jurgen has traveled to Spain, Belgium, Romania and Holland. During 11 months of 2003, he visited Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Iran, Turkey, Greece and several countries in Eastern Europe to show that schizophrenia does not know any boundaries, and does not make any difference between rich, poor, social or ethnic background.

Wound

Sustained by falling glass.  Empty glass fell and broke on head, shard penetrating the right shoulder.  Attempt to tape wound shut was somewhat successful:  patient slept, with the aid of chivas.

What we can learn:  Be careful where you put your empty glass.  It could fall and hit your head.

Beer Bongs: Bad Idea

It happened in Perth, and it wasn't pretty.

Cyst Removal

I have just been to the doctor in Portobello to have a cyst on my eylid removed. Yum. First, the numbing eyedrops, then three seperate injections of local anasthetic into the eyelid itself. Then, the clamp. Then the scalpel slicing the bastard open, then the scraper, scraping out the "jelly like substance". All this just a millemetre above my vision. So now I am wearing an eyepatch. Much better look though than a cyst on your eye, I can tell you. I've had it for three months and got sick of people saying "Dude! what's wrong with your eye!?" in loud voices. Not a chick magnet.
