1000 Fans >

200804212140Kevin Kelly investigates a thesis for artists and the realites of survival in micro niches at the 'low end of the long tail' of creative existence. Can one survive on a true fan base of 1000 fans if theoretically, they pay you 100 dollars each? Is it even possible, particularly in this realm of no-cost copies? Musician Robert Rich offers an insightful response to this notion, based from his own experiences of trying to make a living this way,  direct marketing thru the internet and speaking your personal truth, regardless of cost.

Hazel/Ovarian Trolley Single For Sale

Hazelovarian_trolley_1

Andy took the time to write in with an offer on an out-of-print single which he has 20 copies of - so here's the deal:

There is a 7" by Hazel/Ovarian Trolley that the cover was designed by Margaret Kilgallen.  This was put out in the late 90's, these are on orange vinyl, and out of print.  I believe this was featured in Beautiful Losers.  I have 20 copies of this record.  I know people that visit your site/store would be interested and figured I'd offer them for sale to you.  I'm asking $20/record.  Lemme know.

Thanks,
Andy

Seeings as Andy is the kind of dude who is all about obscure bay area punk and orange vinyl, and sharing the love thereof, I am not going to post his email to be raped by spambots - so please email me and I'll email him so he can email you about how to go about the purchase.

By the way, Margaret Kilgallen is was awesome...  She died of breast cancer at 33 in 2001.  She was married to the equally awesome Barry McGee.
