In July we held a Neverhappened conference in Kathaluwa, Sri Lanka.  The turnout was pretty low - there were two of us - but we got a lot covered.  Topics included mollusc hunting, wine appreciation, sleep deprivation, medium format photography, and bodysurfing.  We are hoping for more attendees next year - though I can say no one who went along this year had any complaints, with the possible exception of the attendee who was attacked by a particularly dangerous pack of Crassostrea madrasensis and suffered lacerations to the area directly above the proximal phalanx...

Commercial war

Battlefieldlarge

Photograph by Wang Qingsong   "Commercial War focuses on the power of ads and the misconceptions that ads can create. For this photo work, I constructed a chaotic backdrop where over 20 people are depicted in a frenzy of competition with some even fist fighting while jostling for ad positioning on a huge billboard advertisement; this struggle for the most optimal outdoor ad placement is perceived as inevitably bringing power and influence. The struggle for ad placement in public space in China is not unlike a battlefield strewn with casualties after a pitched battle for power. Today one brand wins. The next day, its competitor will replace it with better positioning on public spaces. Every day, new ads go up, and old ones fall down, scattered in pieces, and discarded on the ground under newly erected billboard advertisements"

Exquisite images by mademoiselleloulou at her blog.  Exactly the kind of pictures that make me happy.  I have taken thousands of these kind of pictures, but not one as good as hers...  Maybe it's just because I've never been to Paris?

Shades of Edward Hopper in these photographs of Jeff Brouw's.  And I'm getting a bit of Wilco.  Possibly.  Though that may be my imagination, and this wine.

Seitz 6x17 - 160 megapixels

2seitz6x17front

We are only at the beginnings of digital photography - Most cameras are only now approaching the resolving power of film.  What will be really interesting is when imaging devices become readily available that far surpass what traditional cameras have been able to capture.  Take this one for example.  It takes panoramas which are 21,500 pixels wide.  I'm guessing this will be inside my cellphone one day - maybe not too far from now...
